MPhil Programme in Development Studies
Length of the Programme: The MPhil programme in Development Studies is a two to three year programme structured around five core areas of study which, together with a variety of elective courses, form the disciplinary framework of a student’s field of interest. The academic year consists of 2 semesters (Winter and Spring). The programme’s teaching component comprises four core courses in the first semester (September- December) and one core and three elective courses in the second semester (January-May). The second year of the programme is focused on the writing of a research thesis and may include fieldwork. Credit Hours and Courses: All courses are three credit hours each. The MPhil Research Thesis is 6 credit hours.

Opportunities: The qualification of an MPhil in Development Studies offers opportunities for work with government establishments, multilateral and bilateral development agencies, national and international NOOs, private sector firms, and. teaching and research institutions.
Entrance Requirements: Admission to the MPhil in Development Studies programme is regulated through; (i) NTS OAT —General Admissions Test (ii) a Lahore School admissions test and (iii) an interview process. A four year Bachelor’s degee/two years Master’s degree with a CGPA of 2.5 is a pre-requisite for regular admission to the MPhil in Development Studies programme.
Programmes, Admissions and Financial Assistance Information: The prospectus of the Lahore School of Economics, which includes information on Programmes and the application form, may be collected together with financial assistance forms from the Lahore School’s Admissions Office at the City Campus. Prospective students and parents are invited to visit the Admissions Office Mondays to Fridays between 9:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m.
